A little about GGM
The summer of 2015, I joined a non-profit organization called, Global Girl Media. This non-profit organization teaches young women like myself to create and distribute digital journalism intended to improve scholastic achievement, promote community activism and social change. I have been exposed to amazing mentors and people who obtain great amounts of knowledge and grace. Being apart of this program has allowed me to connect with my community and make content on matters that are important to the people in my community. This program is by far the most meaningful to me because it made me realize that I possess the power to change things in order to benefit communities everywhere.
Final Project With the skills I learned from my internship, me and three other girls made an awareness video about teen depression and self. We conducted interviews with professionals and strangers on the street about their thoughts and observations about people who self harm. In addition to that, we got the chance to interview a young lady who has been a victim of depression and self harm on a personal level.

Week 1 Journal Log
During the first week of my internship, I learned how to work a camera and edit videos for the first time. We had two guest speakers visit us as to tell us about their experience in journalism and how it transcended into their current careers. At the end end of the week, we visited Twitter headquarters in San Francisco and learned about all the different tasks that are needed in order to keep Twitter running and up to date. In addition to learning about Twitter and its workers, we got to enjoy a nice complimentory breakfast in Twitter's beautiful cafe' and feasted with the head of Twitter's music personal representative. Visiting Twitter was by far my favorite part of the week and it really inspired me to become apart of the Twitter family.
Week 2 Journal Log
The second week of my internship, I learned how to conduct interviews and make my own personal voice-overs. By this point my supervisors split us all into groups so that we could focus on creating a video about a problem that was important to us. My group and I decided to focus on teen depression and self harming since we had all been either directly or indirectly affected by this epidemic. At the end of the week, we visited Jamba Juice headquarters in Emeryville, CA and learned about different marketing and promoting techniques big businesses use in order to sell their product. In addition to learning about Jamba Juice’s marketing and promotion process, we got free merchandise and got to taste test some of their exclusive flavors smoothie flavors.
Week 3 Journal Log
My final week at my intership was very busy and extremeley exhausting. Each day, I worked hard getting everything together along with my other group partners. We had to set up interviews with psychologists and former self harmers, film, make voice-overs, and edit. I spent long hours in the lab organizing everything with my partners and after a lot of hard work, we finally finished our video. This experience impacted my life so much. I built close relationships with my peers, got to network with successful women and men in the world of journalism, and make and share an impactful video that is very important to me. I wouldn't trade my time at GlobalGirl Media for anything in the world, and I am really glad I got a chance to be apart of something so big.
